UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTRE AND WHY YOU SHOULD REGISTER

 – ACADEMIC YEAR 2020/2021

 

An important part of coming to University is ensuring that you look after yourself and your wellbeing.

Registering at the Medical Centre on campus will give you access to all NHS services to support you during your time in Loughborough studying.

The ongoing Coronavirus pandemic makes the access to medical services more important. The Medical Centre together with our NHS partners are promoting registration at the Medical Centre  and information about how to register, what to expect from the Medical Centre, the services you will be able to access at the Medical Centre and locally, is detailed below.  

There is also information and useful links about Coronavirus, confidentiality, support services at the University and most importantly how to register with Loughborough University Medical Centre.

 

If you do not register at the Medical Centre we may not be able to see you on Campus and you may be directed to other services.


What to do BEFORE you arrive

*To ensure you have access to NHS treatment we ask that you submit your patient registration form with us 2 to 3 weeks before arriving in Loughborough.

*If you take regular medication, please bring at least 2 months supply with you from your current GP.

*We will send you a text message to confirm your registration with us.  If you have not received a confirmation text within 10 days of submitting your registration request, please contact us on 01509 277577.

What to do / expect when registered with us and arrived at University

 

*When registered at the Medical Centre please book a telephone consultation with a clinician to review your medication.  Any regular medication you are prescribed will be added to your health records.

*Due to Coronavirus you can access us by telephone.  Please call us on 01509 277577 and a telephone appointment will be arranged with a clinician.  In order to direct you to the most appropriate clinician we will ask you for a brief description of the problem you need treatment for.

*The pharmacy on campus can advise on any minor ailments and you may be directed to this service, please follow this link for more information https://www.themedicinebox.co.uk/

*IF after the initial telephone consultation a clinician has booked a face to face appointment with you please ensure you attend on time wearing a mask / face covering.

*Please use the doorbell to let us know you have arrived for your face to face appointment and a member of the team will come to the door.

Coronavirus has impacted the services we would usually be able to offer to visitors and during this pandemic we may only be able to consider patients who need immediate and necessary treatment.

Named/Accountable GP:

All patients registered at the Medical Centre have a named doctor who has overall responsibility for your care and support.  For the period of registrations August 2020 to August 2021 Dr Gill is your named accountable GP.   Follow the link for more information:-

Meningitis Vaccination for Freshers:

Students aged between 17-24yrs and starting university are strongly recommended to have a booster Men ACWY vaccination (which has replaced the Meningitis C) if you didn’t receive one in school. This is because it is now known that your immunity to the disease will have decreased and your risk of catching the disease is higher.  When you are registered please telephone us on 01509 277577 and arrange an immunisation appointment.  Please follow the links below for further information:-
